Visitor Itinerary

At the Vulci Archaeological Nature Park, visitors can admire the archaeological excavations of the ancient Etruscan-Roman metropolis of Vulci, the noble Etruscan tombs, and the artifacts displayed in the National Archaeological Museum, all immersed in an unspoiled natural setting that offers ever-changing colors, sounds, and emotions…
The canyon formed by dark volcanic rock carved by the waters of the Fiora; the plateau populated by majestic Maremma cattle and wild horses; the lush vegetation along the riverbanks, a refuge for wild boars, hares, porcupines and, in spring, a sky colored by the many rainbows of bee-eaters…
Vulci is archaeology, nature, and tradition!

Visitors can choose to admire the Nature and History of Vulci by walking peacefully along one of the marked Routes: the
short route (2.500 km), the complete route (4.500 km), and the
nature route (1.700 km), which allow visitors to explore the archaeological excavations of the Etruscan-Roman city without missing Pellicone Lake, a “must-see stop” on every route.
Nature lovers should not miss the Butterfly Valley, the route near the North Gate, where, through the creation of “islands” hosting plants useful for attracting small hymenopterans and educational panels, enthusiasts and curious visitors alike will be able to learn more about the subject.
It is also possible to visit independently, every day during the park’s opening hours,
the Northern Necropolis, where, by following a route also accessible to people with reduced mobility, visitors can explore the Tomb of the Carved Ceilings and the Tomb of the Sphinx.

A few minutes by car from the Park ticket office, after crossing the Fiora, visitors will find the charming Badia Bridge and the National Archaeological Museum of the Badia Castle (the museum is state-run and is closed on Mondays).

Also on the opposite bank of the Fiora is the
Eastern Necropolis, with the François Tomb, the Tomb of the Inscriptions, and the Cuccumella Tumulus.
The area can be reached by car. A guide is required to visit the tombs: group bookings can be made by calling 0766.031556 – 0766.89298.
Alternatively, from spring onwards, the Park organizes guided tours of the Eastern Necropolis according to a calendar of events published in the agenda.

Inside the Park there is a refreshment point, the “Casaletto Mengarelli”, and a restaurant near the ticket office, the “Casale dell’Osteria”, where visitors can enjoy traditional Maremma dishes.
The two restaurants observe closing periods during the winter months. We recommend contacting the facilities by phone for information or reservations.
