Restoration workshop

The restoration laboratory of Fondazione Vulci is located in the historic center of Montalto di Castro, in a renovated former granary. Spread over two floors, it covers an area of 400 square meters.

The facility, specialized in the restoration and conservation of movable archaeological heritage (stone, ceramic, metal, organic and osteological finds) and immovable heritage (masonry, plasterwork, flooring, etc.) works mainly on materials from the various excavation campaigns carried out at Vulci and on the archaeological structures of the Vulci Park.

The laboratory, created in 1995 according to modern criteria, with highly technological equipment and centralized systems (compressed air, dust and fume extraction, etc.), still maintains today, thanks to continuous maintenance and equipment updates, this character of excellence in the field of archaeological conservation.

Many artifacts now displayed in museums throughout the Tuscia area and in exhibitions held in Italy and abroad have been restored in the laboratories. The remaining materials, instead, are housed in the storage facilities of Fondazione Vulci, protected by an anti-intrusion system and, for the most sensitive materials, by continuous climate control.
